College application help

Applying to college/university can be a daunting and difficult process. More so when you're applying to study abroad and need financial aid. There's numerous essays, challenging questions and honestly, quite a number of decisions to be made. I'd like to offer help and maybe even some guidance based on the experiences I had throughout the process to make it easier for you as you begin this journey. I'm not an expert, nor do I promise to get you into the college of your dreams; I'm just happy to help anyone who needs a little extra support as they take this next step-and answer the questions you're too scared to ask your school's guidance counsellor ;)

1: Initial research and choosing colleges/universities

Starting the process for me was one of the hardest parts of the entire application. The options can be overwhelming and you're yet to fully understand what you want out of your college experience. If you need some help and tips on finding your bearings and advice on where to begin, reach out using my bookings page and I'll guide you through my approach which you can try or adapt in your own way as you begin your journey.

2: Application strategy

Once you know what you're looking for, the next step is working on finding multiple colleges and/or universities that would be the best fit for you. This means finding your 'reach', 'match' and 'safety' schools. If none of these terms make sense to you yet, we can strategize together.

Additionally, applications to American universities are all about creating a holistic, authentic representation of yourself that best showcases who you are. I'd be more than happy to help you organize and structure your application to create a full-bodied representation of your personality, academic self as well as who you are outside of the classroom and school. 3: Help with your Common Application essay

Through the application platform Common App, applicants have one 250-650 word essay that is essentially a personal statement to demonstrate who you are to the admissions team/committees. Capturing your ✨essence✨ within the word limit can seem nearly impossible. During our one-on-one session, I'll help you brainstorm, share some advice and tips I learned while discovering how to write my own. You'll also be able to send your essay to me for review up to 2 times. This is your biggest chance to tell your story in your college application. Book here, and let's discuss it.

4: Approaching supplementary essays

The biggest scam in US college applications in my opinion. They're deceptive and seemingly easy and yet... they take the longest time to write. Supplementary essays ask easy questions with difficult answers. eg, "why do you want to go to [x] college?" and sometimes, they're difficult not because of what they ask, but because of how much they expect you to say with such few words. Fear not, I can help you brainstorm, provide some resources I found useful as well as review your answers up to 2 times. Book here!

5: Financial aid and scholarships

Heard of the ISFAA or the CSS profile? Maybe the college/university you're applying to has its own financial aid application? If you don't know what some of these acronyms mean or the answers to these questions, don't worry! We all have to start somewhere. Need-blind, need-aware; what do these terms mean?

Applying for financial aid in general is time consuming and challenging not only because of all the documents you may need to provide, but because of the conversations you may need to have with your family/ whoever is financing your studying as well as the calculations you may need to do.

It doesn't help that this may factor into your admission decision either :(( But its not all doom and gloom, book here and I can share some of the tips and online resources I found while I was applying to universities in the US.

6: Decision day! What next?

The countdowns have come to an end and you've gotten a response from all the colleges/universities you applied to. Time to make decisions. Where will you attend? What factors will influence this decision the greatest? Need help deciding where to go and maybe some tips and advice for next steps? Book here and we can talk it out.
